MIAD LANDSCAPE PROJECT. |
Title: Futuristic Milwaukee.
Size: 30 cm x 30 cm Medium: Wood, Assemblage. Date: April, 2016. Exhibition Text My landscape was reflected on the work of Beach and Howe because they used new abstract shapes and colors to display their creativity. With my piece I included color for some light and also used straight edge pieces to represent the landscape. |
PROCESS AND OUTCOME.
|
In the process of creating my landscape, I certainly had trouble coming with a design. I wanted to use Beach and Howe because I loved the way the created these buildings with many twist and windows. After doing some research, I discovered Beach and Howe have an amazingly tall building in Vancouver, Canada which has a twist design that goes all the way up. I wanted to try and copy that same design but I had many complications with that idea.
In the beginning I had no idea how I was going to set everything up. I knew I wanted to have my piece be separated with a center piece. My ideal design was the have the business life on one side and the more calm and peaceful side on the other side also know as the park. So as I started designing more, I began to work with triangles to create an abstract piece but after meeting with the professor from MIAD, he told me that triangles didn't work and I need more organic structures. So after more trial and error I finally found something I liked. My favorite pieces were the benches and small pieces that go over the light sources. Along with the positives, the negatives began to show. Some of the problems I had was my building, when they were cut they began to bow which caused them to not be as straight as I needed them. Another problem I had was, I had way to much open space and was having trouble finding general sized pieces to fill in the big gaps. After some more brainstorming I finally came up with the idea of adding a colored piece of Plexiglas and also creating a juggle Jim like structure for the park side. After buying, measuring, and cutting the Plexiglas I then spray painted it a bright color hoping that when the light hit the piece it would reflex down and give the piece a red tint. After installing everything, I used the light box in the art room to see if my plan worked and it worked to some extent. It didn't reflect a strong amount of color but it was just enough to make the buildings and park structures like red. In general the project went very well and after the critique we had, I was opened up to new ideas and new concepts that would make my project even better! |
