Title: Milwaukee Flag Creation.
Medium: Google Drawing/ Hand Drawing. Size: 60.96 cm x 91.44 cm Date: November 16,2015 My flag creations all are influenced by things I see and know about the city I live in. I've also made a personal connection with the ones I have created and displayed. Some of my inspiration came from seeing other city flags like the Chicago flag. My plan was to keep all designs complex and have a true meaning for Milwaukee and the people of Milwaukee. I used the system Google Draw, which is almost similar to Photoshop. With the program I was able to get the shapes and certain colors I was looking for without having problems. |

With the first design my idea was to keep it simple and have some meaning for the city. In the flag my design was to use a simple concept of a solid background, stripes, and a main centerpiece. The solid background of blue represents Lake Michigan and the industries that use the water for advancements, the yellow stripes represent the Hoan Bridge and its meaning in Milwaukee, and finally the white star represents the museums and businesses that are known in Milwaukee or have originated from here. My inspriation for the flag would be Robert Indiana, but its mainly for the colors he used. They were bright and each color represented something.
My second flag design is mostly focused on the industries of brewing and manufacturing. The gear represents the industries mainly known in Milwaukee which are trucking companies that go across the states to deliver necessities for everyday life. The wheat inside the gear represents the brewing companies that are based in Milwaukee like Miller and Pabst. The background for this flag is also blue to represent Lake Michigan and the imports / exports that are brought in or sent out through the Ports of Milwaukee. My third flag design is the outline of a semi-truck. I have made a personal connections which gave me the idea of this design. I included a hidden "M" on the inside of the trailer to represent Milwaukee. I kept the image white because it shows more of the detail I added and so viewers can see the hidden "M". If I were to add color the semi-truck would be yellow and the background would be sky blue to represent the open road. |
