Title: Loneilness
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas. Size: 30.48 cm X 30.48 cm. Date: December 2016. Exhibition. I wanted to express the theme of isolation and depression by using an image of a single heart. Many people go through some heartbreaking problems and I wanted to represent that I have also experienced the same or relatable problems. |

Inspiration & Research.
My artist inspiration is Enrique Simonet, who is a spanish painter that was popular during the nineteenth century who mainly focused on religious figures that had an influencial impact on the story of the bible. He produced this canvas "Anatomy of the Heart" which showes the anatomic exploration of a woman’s body. It shows an old man holding in his hand the heart he has just extracted from the cadaver. The man is exploring the anatomy of the heart to understand why this organ is important and how to keeps the body living. He used dark colors to show the sadness that had been developed through the process of taking the heart out of this young woman.
I was inspired by this piece because it symbolized the actions of having your heart torn out by something sad like death and how it can affect everyone around you.

Overall creating this project was a little more dificlut than my other pieces. Since I had worked with this medium before I had an understanding of how to mix colors and I was able to add much detail to the piece. I decided to use solid colors for this project because It made it easier to show the detail in my piece.
This piece allowed me to focus on the meaning of a lonely heart. I chose to paint the human heart to represent what being alone feels like to me. When people deal with the loss of a loved one or even during a break up they feel like they are alone and that they have been abanded which leaves them a lonely heart. So this piece for me was super difficult to create because I never let anyone know that I felt lonely so with this piece it let me break out of my comfort zone. This piece also allowed me to connect it back to my original theme of isolation and how it affects the people around me. Something I wish I would have looked more into would be how to incorporate more texture to the heart by using different coloring and brushstroke techniques. I also would have liked to focus more on the organs around the heart to show the affect the heart has on the function of other organs. A huge success was the use of solid colors to show deep bright colors against the black background. Some of the challenges I endured was my lines for the detail in the heart and the veins, they were not dark enough which left little imperfections when the piece was finished. EXPERIMENTATION: With the experimentation process, I didn't try many different paint colors or brushstroke techinques mainly because I wanted to keep the painting very simple but very detailed in the texture of the heart itself. Reflection
Overall I enjoyed doing this piece because I was able to work with my favorite medium and it was also interesting to do something that has many different potentials. One thing I would do different next time would be the choice of technique used to add detail and color the piece together because after looking at it I can see some spots that are dull. In personal opinion is piece represents many of the peers around me and how life events change the way we feel mentally and physically. In general this piece was very successful and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
