Process and outcome.
ACT Responses.1. The relationship between my own inspiration and the effect upon my art work has a very strong visual impact on the viewer because my pieces are every day items that you given definition and texture in a simple sketch.
2. The overall approach the author has on the topic of my inspiration is based upon their own beliefs and activities mainly because each person uses a certain items so the way they visualize the piece is unique. 3. Some generalizations and conclusions I have made over the creation of these artworks would be that depending where you come from or what your heritage is, that not everyone uses the same product or they may not agree upon the use of the product. 4. The theme around my research would be my daily routine items that I use everyday. 5. Some inferences that I read during the research would be that imagery and tone are key to having the message of your painting come across strong enough that the viewer will understand what is being conveyed. |
The 12 still lives created were to express how many things we come in contact with throughout a day. I used as many items as I could that would show some definition in the purpose of shading and trying not to use an outline. In the beginning I was not sure what the definition of a still life was so I decided to do some research about them. As stated in an Oxford Dictionary, A painting or drawing of an arrangement of objects, typically including fruit and flowers and objects contrasting with these in texture. The definition seemed to be very vague and lack the information I was looking for. So as I continued to read on, a still life is anything that doesn't move but is a collection of inanimate objects arranged together in a specific way for example flowers or bones.
So I began to look around for objects to draw and I was struggling so much with this because I kept doubting myself because my still life drawing skills aren't very strong. In the beginning I started with simple objects like bones, candles, and glassware. I was trying to incorporated a great amount of detail in each picture because they all seemed to be very flat and dull but I couldn't add much shading due to the lack of texture in the picture. Another struggle I had was not outlining the drawing. In my opinion outlining a draw can sometimes be good for showing skill but it can also hurt the drawing if the outline is sloppy or super dark. In the beginning I caught myself outlining the drawing but as I kept drawing different objects I used a very light outline or a medium outline depending on where the shading needs to be. I used the outline to add a more softer feel as the shading would fade from dark to light. One positive outcome from this project is that I feel as if I able to blend and shade better than before. I also became more resourceful as in the materials I used, for example I used a Q-tip to do most of my shading while also using my water colored pencils to give some of the drawings color and volume. I also was able to add some background details like having something sit against the wall or even on a cabinet. |
